Box Score PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Rowan University women's basketball team dropped its first game of the Cardinal Classic losing to The Sage Colleges, 78-69 on Friday.
The Profs are now 0-2 on the season and the Gators move to 1-0.
Guard
Dominique Peters (jr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) had a team-high 19 points, followed by guard
Olivia Rulon (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) with 18. Guard
Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) contributed 12 points, three rebounds and two assists, while center
Ayanna Johnson (fr. Ewing, NJ/The Pennington School) notched four points and grabbed 10 boards.
For Sage, guard Emily Parslow (sr. Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) recorded 17 points and forward Madasyn Bush (so. Pottersville, NY/North Warren Central) notched a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Tanisha Edge (jr. Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) added 12 points and dished eight assists.
Rowan trailed early in the opening quarter, 6-0. The Profs picked up the pace and took an 8-6 advantage after Johnson hit a layup and Rulon swished back-to-back threes. Sage went on a run midway through the quarter to pull ahead, 16-11. Each side traded baskets for the final few minutes of the first, but the Gators held a 21-19 lead.
The Brown and Gold started slow in the second as it fell behind, 31-23. The Profs battled back and went on a 15-0 run to take a 38-31 advantage. Forward
Jazlyn Duverglas (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Creek) ignited the rally with a layup, followed by a layup from Rulon and a pair of free throws from Johnson (5:20). Rulon stayed hot and converted a three-point play, to have Kriley score the final six points of the run (3:07). Rowan held a 40-35 lead heading into halftime.
The Profs stumbled in the third quarter as the Gators built a 63-49 lead. Rowan fought back and cut the deficit to eight (75-67) after Peters hit a jump shot. Sage held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest and won, 78-69.
Rowan will play New England College tomorrow Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. for the final game of the Cardinal Classic.
