ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Rowan University women's soccer team shut out Eastern University, 6-0 on Wednesday.
The Profs were ahead 4-0 after the first half. Midfielders
Sarah Rosenberg (sr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon),
Darah Wagner (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and
Megan McKinley (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each scored one time. The fourth marker was an own goal. Back
Kelsi Stangl (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) and forward
Daria Jones (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) both hit the net in the final stanza.
The Profs have an 8-1-1 record while the Eagles are 5-6 on the season. Goalies
Shelby Money (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and
Amanda Leber (so. Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) shared the shutout. For Eastern, goalkeeper Adrianna Rowlands (sr. Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) turned away five shots and goalie Grace Schreckengast (fr. Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock Twp.) had two saves.
Rosenberg knocked in a cross at the 48-second mark from back
Casey Lubonski (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) for the first goal. Wagner scored with a header (9:40) and midfielder
Bethany Sansone (fr. Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) had the assist. McKinley blasted a shot from the top of the box (36:34) after a feed from midfielder
Dominique Marrone (so. Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace). The own goal came at 40:40.
Stangl hit the upper left corner of the net (57:03) after a pass from Jones. Forward
Cathryn McCarry (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the helper on Jones' marker at 58:01.
Rowan returns to Glassboro on Saturday, Oct. 6 against New Jersey City University at 6 p.m. The 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference Champions will be honored at halftime.
