GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Stockton University, 6-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Wednesday night.
The Profs, ranked seventh, are undefeated with an 11-0 record and they are 2-0 in the conference. The Ospreys are 7-3 overall with a 1-1 NJAC mark.
The win marked head coach
Michelle Andre's 50
thvictory with the Profs. In four years, she has compiled a 50-19 record. Her overall coaching mark is 145-131 in 15 seasons.
Midfielder
Kristiina Castagnola (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) led Rowan with two goals. Forward
Rachel Galante (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Collingswood) and midfielder
Molly Gorczyca (sr. Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) each contributed with a goal and an assist. Back
Casey Wagner (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) chipped in with two assists.
Forwards
Bridget Guinan (fr. Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and
Krystyna Hovell (fr. Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Reg.) added one goal apiece. Goalie
Morgan Novak (jr. Jackson, NJ//Jackson Mem.) recorded her third shutout. For Stockton, goalie Emily Gilligan (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) turned away 10 shots.
Rowan scored three goals in each half. Castagnola put the Profs on the scoreboard at 7:21 when she tipped in a one-timer by Wagner. Gorczyca hit the cage (9:12) with a high shot. She then assisted on Guinan's goal at 22:22.
Galante poked the ball in past Gilligan at 48:28. Hovell's goal came on a pass from Galante at 56:59. Castagnola connected with Wagner again for the final tally (58:27) on a penalty corner.
Rowan travels to conference opponent Kean University on Saturday, Oct. 6 for a 1 p.m. game.
