GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team pushed past Stockton University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament, winning by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday.
With the win, the Profs (12-6) advance to the semi-finals to face the top-seeded Montclair State University.
Rowan wasted no time in the opening half as Forward
Ryan Campbell (sr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) scored his first goal on the night in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Campbell doubled up in the 26th minute when he headed a ball in off a corner kick from midfielder
Aaron Robertson (fr. Neptune, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) to claim a 2-0 advantage. The Brown and Gold stopped every offensive threat for the remainder of the first to head into halftime with a two-goal lead.
The Brown and Gold kept the intensity up in the final frame to cause havoc on the Stockton defense. In the 56th minute, the Osprey's fouled a Rowan player in the box, which led to a red card and a penalty kick. Campbell stepped to the line and hit top corner to complete the hat-trick and give the Profs a 3-0 advantage. Stockton answered as back Kyle Leach (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) and midfielder Christian Bik (jr. Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) notched back-to-back goals in the 60th and 64th minute to cut the deficit to 3-2. With Rowan's backs against the wall, it dug deep and tallied a goal in the 80th minute to pull away, 4-2. Midfielder
Saif Elsieidy tapped in a header pass from midfielder
Modou Sowe (jr. Harrison, NJ/Harrison). The Brown and Gold locked down defensively for the last 10 minutes to win the game.
Campbell tallied three goals in the contest to lift Rowan to the victory. Goalie
Kyle Dennis (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) played the full time in net and stopped one shot.
