EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men's swimming & diving team captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship with a 167.5-132.5 win at The College of New Jersey on Saturday.
It is the Profs' second straight and 15
th conference title overall. The men's team is 8-1 overall with a final 4-0 conference mark.
Rowan took first place in the 200 medley relay (1:35.53) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:08.04). The medley relay included
Dan Lawton (jr. Yardley, PA/Pennsbury),
Matt Grubb (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Oliver Cruz (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Franklin) and
Dylan Regan (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.).
Kevin Gillooly (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.),
Nate Wojtowicz (jr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County),
John Tepper (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Atlantic County Institute of Tech.) and
Eric Feuerstein (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) were on the freestyle relay.
Tepper came in first in the 500 (4:46.51) and 1000 (9:46.92) freestyles. Grubb touched first in the 100 (57.85) and 200 (2:12.30) breaststrokes. Feuerstein was the winner in the 200 (1:43.14) freestyle and he was third (47.74) in the 100 and fourth (21.90) in the 50. Regan claimed first (21.66) in the 50 free.
Sean Piacente (sr. New City, NY/Clarkstown S.) won the one and three-meter diving. He totaled 302.48 points in the one-meter and 338.10 points on the three-meter board.
Mike Grubb (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and
Chad Shire (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) were third (240.83) and fourth (240.15) in the one-meter diving. Shire also had a second place (262.50) in the three-meter.
Gillooly finished second (53.10) in the 100 backstroke and Lawton followed third (53.28). In addition, Gillooly had a third place (21.89) in the 50 free. Lawton took fourth (1:57.52) in the 200 backstroke. In the 200 butterfly,
Youssef Elshenawy (fr. Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) and
Jake Kayati (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) were second (1:54.27) and third (1:59.62) respectively. Cruz was second (1:01.31) in the 100 breaststroke.
Matt Smits (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) took second (9:59.73) in the 1000 freestyle.
Colin Fisher (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came in second (1:58.61) in the 200 individual medley.
Noah Shepard (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) finished third (2:17.09) in the 200 breaststroke.
The Profs captured second through fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Nick Marte (sr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) took second (51.74) while Cruz and Kayati were third (52.08) and fourth (52.11) respectively.
Kyle Printon (fr. Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) had fourth places in the 200 (1:44.58) and 500 (4:54.56) freestyles. Wojtowicz was fourth (48.11) in the 100 free.
Next week, Rowan hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. It is the Profs' final home meet of the season. The men's swimming & diving team will honor its seniors before the meet and it is also Alumni Day.
