GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's swimming & diving team defeated conference opponent Montclair State University, 204-94 on Saturday.
The Profs won both relays. The 200 medley relay had a winning time of 1:36.79 with the team of
Kevin Gillooly (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.),
Matt Grubb (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Oliver Cruz (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Franklin) and
Eric Feuerstein (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit). Gillooly,
Marc Gernhardt (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee),
John Tepper (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Atlantic County Institute of Tech.) and
Nate Wojtowicz (jr. Centreville, NJ/Queen Anne's County) were on the first place (3:14.14) 400 freestyle relay.
Rowan has a 5-1 record with a 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference mark. Montclair State is 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Tepper touched first in the 200 (1:45.70) and 500 (4:49.67) freestyles. The Profs captured first through third in the 50 free. Feuerstein was the winner in 21.61, Wojtowicz came in second (22.32) and Gernhardt was third (22.53). Gernardt also took second (48.97) in the 100 free. In the 200 individual medley, Feuerstein finished third (2:04.90).
Sean Piacente (sr. New City, NY/Clarkstown S.) won the one-meter diving (11 dives) with 477.30 points.
Mike Grubb (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) totaled 456.40 points and was second. Both divers qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.
Chad Shire (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) came in third (379.50). Piacente was also the winner (288.65) in the one-meter (six dives).
Mike Grubb and Shire were second (284.10) and third (252.50) respectively.
Gillooly finished first in the 100 backstroke (53.88) and 100 freestyle (48.40).
Matt Grubb swam 2:13.10 in the 200 breaststroke for first place.
Kyle Printon (fr. Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) came in first (10:05.59) in the 1000 freestyle and
Matt Smits (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) was second (10:11.93). Printon also had a second place (2:00.98) in the 200 butterfly.
Dan Lawton (jr. Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) took first (2:00.12) in the 200 backstroke and was second (54.82) in the 100 backstroke.
Youssef Elshenawy (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep) had a second place (1:49.39) in the 200 freestyle. He was also third (53.51) in the 100 butterfly. Cruz claimed second (1:02.39) in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.39) and 200 individual medley (2:04.09).
Jake Kayati (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) finished second (53.36) in the 100 butterfly.
John Shellem (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added a third place (2:03.77) in the 200 butterfly and
Nick Marte (sr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) followed fourth (2:05.11). Marte also finished third (49.35) in the 100 freestyle.
Colin Fisher (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came in third (2:03.19) in the 200 backstroke.
For Montclair State, Kevin Clauss (jr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.96) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.20). He was also second (2:15.35) in the 200 breaststroke. Steven Roth (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) had first places in the 100 (52.39) and 200 (1:59.26) butterflies. James Singewald (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) took second (2:02.21) in the 200 backstroke while Michael Pacheco (sr. Passaic, NJ/Paramus Catholic) was second (4:56.38) in the 500 freestyle.
Next week, Rowan travels to Swarthmore College on Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 1 p.m. meet that also includes Stevens Institute of Technology.
