GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team used a late third quarter surge to top Ramapo College, 81-67 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
Guard
Summer Crilley (sr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) led the Profs with a career-high 27 points. Guard
Dominique Peters (so. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) tied her career mark with 20 points and she set a new career high with six steals. Center
April Szymczyk (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) tallied 14 points and eight rebounds and guard/forward
Alex Raring (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) contributed with seven points. Rowan is 8-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference while the Roadrunners are 4-11 with a 1-7 NJAC mark.
Ramapo forward Jenna Harsh (so. Metuchen, NJ/Bishop Ahr) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Bridgette Buckalew (sr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) produced 11 points and seven boards while center Tia Solomon (jr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) totaled seven points and 11 rebounds. Center Jessica Repasy (so. Fredon, NJ/Kittatinny Reg.) and guard Jina Crawford (sr. New City, NY/Paramus Catholic) chipped in with 11 and nine points respectively.
The Profs were ahead 39-37 at halftime. Crawford's jumper made the score 43-39 at 8:16. Rowan scored seven straight points to take a three-point (46-43) lead with 7:02 on the clock. Raring hit a three-pointer while Szymczyk and Crilley each had two points. The score was tied at 49 before guard Stacey Porzl (so. Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) made a layup to give the Roadrunners a 51-49 advantage (4:15).
The Profs followed with a 15-0 run to take over the game. Rowan was ahead 64-51 at the end of the stretch (2:42). Peters sparked the surge with eight points, Crilley registered five and Raring added two. The closest Ramapo came the rest of the way was nine (74-65) after a pair of foul shots by Solomon with 2:06 left in the fourth.
The score was tied three times in the opening quarter with the last coming at 3:43 (9-9). The Profs poured in 15 of the next 17 points to take a 24-11 lead (1:17). Five different players scored in the run. Peters sank a three (7:18) in the second and Rowan was ahead by 10 (30-20). The Roadrunners followed with nine consecutive points to get within one (30-29) with 4:57 remaining. Harsh totaled four points, Buckalew drilled a three and Repasy made a jump shot. A 7-0 Profs' run made the score 37-29 before Ramapo ended the half with an 8-2 rally.
Next, Rowan travels to Rutgers-Newark for a conference game on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m.
