Box Score 2 GLENSIDE, PA – The Rowan University women's volleyball team closed its trip to the Knights Invitational with a pair of wins on Saturday.
The Profs defeated SUNY Canton, 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-21) and the College of New Rochelle, 3-2 (17-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-9). Rowan is now 8-6 on the season. Arcadia University was the host for the two-day tournament.
Against SUNY Canton, outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) led the way with 11 kills. Middle hitter
Lauren Horbacewicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) tallied nine kills while outside hitter
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) and opposite
Maura Francis (so. Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) followed with eight apiece. Setters
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) amassed 22 and 17 assists respectively. Middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) registered 17 digs and defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) had 13.
Kangaroos' outside hitter/right side Shea Norton (so. Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) and middle blocker/right side Marissa Ixtlahuac (so. Carthage, NY/Carthage) recorded 15 and 11 kills respectively. Setter Peyton Robinson (jr. Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield Central) tallied 33 assists. Libero Jenna Roat (so. Penfield, NY/Penfield) contributed with 22 digs.
Four Profs reached double figures in kills versus New Rochelle, led by Gallagher's 16. She was named to the All-Tournament Team. Middle hitter/opposite
Jamie Shirtz (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) posted 13 kills and outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and Modica had 10 apiece. Paxson and Mock produced 23 and 22 assists respectively. Outside hitter/right side
Kristin Akin (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) chipped in with 16 digs and Staiber added 15.
Blue Angels' outside hitter Imani DeBose (so. Carson, CA/Narbonne) totaled 18 kills and outside hitter Victoria Alomar (so. Naranjito, PR/Academia Santa Teresita) recorded 13. Setter Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (gr. Gurabo, PR/Notre Dame) and setter/right side Cristal Michelle Liciaga (so. San Juan, PR/Colegio Neustra Senora Del Carmen) tallied 25 and 15 assists respectively. Outside hitter Fabiola Angeli Padilla Rios (sr. San Juan, PR/University Gardens) produced 23 digs.
After dropping the first two sets, Rowan trailed 11-10 in the third stanza. The Profs used a 7-0 run to take a 17-11 lead on the way to the third set victory. The score was tied at 21 in the fourth set before Rowan had the next four points to even the match at two. Gallagher posted three kills and Jacobi had one. The Profs trailed again in the final set on five occasions. However, Rowan rallied for the final seven points of the match to claim the victory. The Profs received kills from Shirtz and Modica and capitalized on five New Rochelle errors.
The volleyball team travels to Kean University for a conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
