Box Score WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team won 2-1 at William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Saturday evening.
It was the third straight victory for the Profs, who sit at 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Pioneers have a 7-2 record with a 1-1 NJAC mark.
It only took 2:14 for Rowan to strike at the start of the contest. Midfielder
Jake Connors (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) lobbed a free kick into the box and back
Nick Schlageter (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) cut through and flicked the ball into the top left corner.
The score remained 1-0 for the majority of the game before forward
Shane Doherty (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) continued his hot streak with a goal at 78:49. He received a pass from forward
Ryan Campbell (jr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) at the top of the box and beat the goalkeeper inside the left post. Doherty has now tallied at least one point in six consecutive contests.
William Paterson actually outshot Rowan, 13-11 and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks but the Profs held the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the final minutes. Midfielder Darwin Cruz (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) ruined the shutout bid with a penalty kick goal at 84:26.

Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) stopped five shots to improve to 4-0 on the year. Goalie Kyle Quigley (so. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County Reg.) made three saves for the Pioneers.
The Profs return to Glassboro to battle conference foe Stockton University on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
