Box Score 2 UNION, NJ – The Rowan University softball team lost the first game of a conference doubleheader at Kean University, 6-1 and won the second, 3-2 on Saturday.
The Profs are 23-3 overall and 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Cougars have a 19-3 record with a 4-2 conference mark.
Right-hander Shannon McMahon (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) threw a complete game for the win in the opener. McMahon (11-0) only allowed one earned run on eight hits. Righty
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) took the loss.
Only three of the Cougars' runs were earned due to the Profs' six errors. Shortstop Cayleen Rizo (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) led Kean with three hits (four at bats), two RBIs and two runs. Catcher Samantha Krakower (so. Palisades Park, NJ/Immaculate Conception) contributed with two RBIs and second baseman Emily Sabo (sr. Rahway, NJ/Rahway) tallied two hits and one run. Center fielder Dana Knapp (sr. Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and first baseman Jacqueline Riley (so. South Amboy, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) each chipped in with one RBI. Rizo and Knapp scored two runs apiece.

Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) and third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each registered two hits. Smith scored the Profs' run and shortstop
Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had the RBI.
Rowan's run came in the second inning. Smith led off with a single and went to second on Gerard's base hit to left field. Anderson singled to center field and Smith came home. Kean took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third. Krakower drove in Rizo and Knapp with a base hit to center field. The Cougars tacked on four runs in the fifth inning for the victory.
Right-hander
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) pitched a complete game for the victory in the second contest. She (10-0) scattered nine hits and gave up two runs, one earned. She struck out five batters. Lefty Taryn DiGiacomo (fr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) allowed six hits and three earned runs in the loss.

The Profs scored all three runs in the first inning. Genello walked, stole second and went to third on a double by Baldassari. DeDomenico drove in Genello with a single through the left side. Smith followed with a base hit to center field and Baldassari scored. DeDomenico came home on a single by Paiotti.
Left fielder Emily Bissonnette (sr. Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) had a RBI single in the second inning for Kean. Pinch runner Tatiana Yourstone (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) scored in the third inning on a single to center field by third baseman Amanda Berezny (sr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills.
