Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept conference opponent Stockton University, 2-0 and 11-2 in five innings on Wednesday. The doubleheader was rescheduled from Tuesday.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) only allowed one hit for the shutout on the mound in the opener. It was her sixth shutout on the season. DeDomenico has a 10-1 record in her rookie season. Pitcher Victoria Torp (so. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) had the loss.
Second baseman
Gianna Decker (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) led the Profs with two hits, a double and one RBI. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) contributed with a double, one RBI and one run. Catcher
Nicole Paiotti (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) added one hit and one run.
Rowan's two runs came in the fourth inning. With one out, Paiotti hit a single to center field. Anderson knocked in Paiotti with a double and she advanced to third on the throw to home. Decker followed with a single, scoring Anderson.
In the second game, designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) totaled three doubles, two RBIs and one run. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) tallied three RBIs with two hits and one double. She also crossed the plate one time. Paiotti and Decker each registered one hit and two runs. DeDomenico chipped in with two hits, one double, two RBIs and two runs.
Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) had one hit, one RBI and one run. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied two hits, a double, one RBI and one run. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) and Anderson had one RBI apiece.
Righty
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scattered four hits and gave up two earned runs in the victory. She (9-0) had five strikeouts. Hannah Bibeault (jr. Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) was the losing pitcher.
The Profs were ahead 6-0 after two innings. Smith plated Baldassari in the first with a double to left field. In the second, Genello walked with the bases loaded and Paiotti came home. Decker scored on Baldassari's ground out. DeDomenico had a two RBI double to right field and Smith followed with a one RBI double to left.
Third baseman/first baseman Alexandra Cosenzo (fr. East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) recorded a two run homer for Stockton in the third inning. Rowan had five more runs in the fourth to end the game in five innings because of the eight run rule. DeDomenico crossed the plate on a sac fly by Anderson. Gerard doubled home Smith and Mercado produced a three RBI double.
Next, Rowan travels to Kean University on Saturday, April 9 for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader.
