William Paterson Softball Takes Two NJAC Games At Rowan, 3-2 And 7-3 (8 inn.)

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The William Paterson University softball team took two conference games at Rowan University, 3-2 and 7-3 in eight innings on Sunday.
 
The Pioneers are 24-8 overall and 12-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Profs have a 29-5 record and a 10-4 conference mark.

Right-hander Gabrielle Castelli (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) was the winning pitcher in the first contest.  She (14-2) only gave up two earned runs on six hits.  Righty Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took the loss.  She (14-1) struck out five batters, allowed five hits and three runs, one earned.
 
Shortstop Rachel Wasilak (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) led William Paterson with a double and two RBIs.  Left fielder Kara Molnar (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) had a home run.  It was her first homer on the season.    
 
For Rowan, center fielder Gianna Genello (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) totaled three hits in three at bats.  Shortstop Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) contributed with one hit and one RBI.  Catcher Nicole Paiotti (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) had a double and scored one run.  Third baseman Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied one hit and one run.
 
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the third inning.  Wasilak knocked in two runs with a double to right center.  Molnar's solo shot came in the top of the fourth and the Profs scored two runs in the bottom half.  With two outs, Gerard singled to left field and advanced to third on Paiotti's double then continued home on an error.  Paiotti scored on Anderson's single to right center. 
 
In the nightcap, the score was tied at one going into the eighth inning.  Designated player Vanessa Archibold (fr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) walked with the bases loaded and pinch runner Lexi Reale (fr. Smithtown, NY/St. Anthony's) went home.  Wasliak followed with a RBI base hit, scoring center fielder Eleni Lutas (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills).  Griffith recorded a grand slam to left field. 
 
In the bottom of the eighth, Gerard doubled to center field and Genello scored.  Paiotti singled to left and Gerard crossed the plate. 

Pitcher Allison Podmajersky (sr. Red Bank, NJ/Middletown S.) went the distance on the mound for the victory.  She (8-6) scattered seven hits and allowed three runs, one earned.  Podmajersky struck out seven batters.  Right-handler Ashley Lesch (jr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) suffered the loss.
 
Griffith and Wasilak each ended the game with two hits.  Right fielder Nicole Fryer (sr. East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg S.), Archibold, Molnar and Lutas scored one run apiece.
 
Anderson totaled two hits, one double and one run.  Left fielder Mia Baldassari (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) produced one hit and one RBI.   
 
Rowan plays its last home games of the regular season on Tuesday, April 25 against Rutgers-Newark at 3 p.m.
