Box Score 2 EWING, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept conference opponent The College of New Jersey, 3-1 in eight innings and 12-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
In the first game, pitcher/right fielder Jess DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) drove in center fielder
Gianna Genello (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) with a single through the left side in the eighth and pinch runner
Rosalie Hood (jr. Mullica Twp., NJ/Cedar Creek) came home on a sac fly by third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley). Genello started on second base because of the international tiebreaker rule. She went to third on left fielder
Mia Baldassari's (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) sac bunt. Baldassari was safe due to an error and was replaced at first by Hood who then stole second.
Right-hander
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the winning pitcher in relief. She threw four shutout innings and did not give up a hit. Pitcher Sam Platt (jr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) took the loss. Third baseman Danielle Carey (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) was two for three with one RBI for the Lions.
Both teams scored one run in the fourth inning. Gerard reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She was on third after a ground out and came home on a Prof strikeout with a catcher's error. In the bottom half, Carey singled up the middle, scoring first baseman Jess Santelli (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough).
Shannon also earned the win on the hill in the second contest. She (12-0) only allowed one hit and one earned run. Sara Bielamowicz (so. Lawrence Twp., NJ/Lawrence) was the losing pitcher.
Rowan has a 25-3 record with a 6-2 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. TCNJ is 11-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
Designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) and Baldassari each produced four RBIs. Baldassari had two hits (one double) and Smith recorded a grand slam. Genello contributed with two hits, two RBIs and two runs. First baseman

The Profs posted six runs in the third inning. Gerard scored the first run when second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (so. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. Mercado plated shortstop
Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) with a single up the middle. Genello had a RBI single that brought Paiotti home. Baldassari knocked in three runs with a double to right center.
TCNJ's lone run came in the fourth. Santelli hit a double to left center and second baseman Annalise Suitovsky (fr. Warren Twp., NJ/Watchung Hills) crossed the plate. Rowan racked up six more runs in the fifth to end the game early because of the eight run rule. Genello and Baldassari each singled in a run. Smith's four run blast when to right field. It was her fifth homer on the season.
