Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Rowan University softball team had two more wins at the Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Blast on Saturday. The Profs had a 3-1 victory over sixth ranked Manhattanville College and they defeated Western Connecticut State University, 18-4 in five innings.
Rowan, ranked 10th, has a 4-0 record. Against Manhattanville, right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) pitched a complete game. She (2-0) only allowed three hits and one earned run. Righty Alycia Feeney (1-1) had the loss on the mound.
Second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (fr. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) paced the Profs with two hits (four at bats), one RBI, a double and one run. DeDomenico chipped in with two hits in three at bats, one RBI and one run. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) contributed with two hits while shortstop
Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had one RBI. Catcher
Nicole Paiotti (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) scored one run.
The Valiants' lone run came in the first inning. Shortstop Sophia Chapelone led off with a double to left center. She went to third on a sac bunt by outfielder Laurel Coito then scored on a wild pitch. The Profs tied the score with one run in the fourth. Breuninger doubled to left field, scoring Paiotti. Anderson's single in the fifth brought home DeDomenico. Rowan had its final run in the sixth inning. Breuninger had a leadoff single and crossed home plate on DeDomenico's base hit to left center.
Righty
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the winning pitcher versus Western Connecticut State. She (2-0) threw 3.1 scoreless innings and did not allow a run. Shannon struck out five batters.
First baseman
Damariz Mercado (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) led the way with two hits (three at bats), three RBIs, one run and a triple. Designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) and Breuninger each produced two hits, two RBIs, a double and two runs. Third baseman
