Box Score 2 ASTON, PA – The Rowan University softball team swept a doubleheader at Neumann University on Thursday.
Rowan won the first game, 5-0 before taking the second contest, 10-2 in six innings. The seventh-ranked Profs improve to 17-1 on the season while the Knights drop to 3-7.
Pitcher
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) hurled a one-hitter in game one. She (7-0) struck out nine batters and walked three. Jen Sieminski (fr. Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) took the loss (0-3).
DeDomenico went two-for-three at the plate with a RBI. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) drove in two runs with a home run. Catcher/designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) knocked in a run and right fielder
Rosalie Hood (jr. Mullica Twp., NJ/Cedar Creek) scored twice. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), Smith and Gerard each came home one time.
Rowan scored the first run in the top of the third when DeDomenico plated Hood with a base hit. The Profs pushed two runs across in the fifth. Mercado came home on a wild pitch and Hood scored on a ground out. Smith had a two-out single in the seventh and Gerard followed with a blast over the left field fence.
Pitcher
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) picked up the win in the nightcap. She (7-0) surrendered two runs on seven hits and struck out seven in six frames. Haley Broomell (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) was tagged with the loss (0-3).
DeDomenico was two-for-four with a double, three RBIs and one run scored. Catcher
Nicole Paiotti (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (so. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) each had two hits and a double. Breuninger and Smith each produced two RBIs. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored twice and drove in one run.
Neumann center fielder Autumn Passarello (fr. Clementon, NJ/Overbrook) and first baseman Becky Guinto (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) both went two-for-three. Designated player Jackie Schneider (so. Holland, PA/Council Rock S.) knocked in two runs and second baseman Grace Sperrazza (fr. Mercerville, NJ/Steinert) and Passarello each scored one time.
The Profs tallied eight runs in the opening inning. Baldassari led off with a walk then DeDomenico had a base hit. Smith followed with a two-run double to right center. Gerard doubled and Smith went to third. Paiotti's double scored two runs for a 4-0 lead. Baldassari came up again with the bases loaded and drew another walk. DeDomenico cleared the bases with a double to left for an 8-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the first, Sperrazza reached first on a passed ball. Passarello doubled to put runners on second and third. Schneider doubled to left center for the two Knights' runs. Second baseman
Gianna Decker (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) doubled in Breuninger in the second to make the score 9-2. Gerard's sacrifice fly in the sixth plated Hood for the final run.
Rowan welcomes Haverford College for its home opener on Thursday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
