Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico threw a no-hitter for the Rowan University softball team in a 2-0 shutout against Hamilton College on Friday. The Profs then suffered their first loss of the season against the University of Dubuque, 2-0.
Rowan returns from the Rebel Spring Games with a 15-1 record. DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) struck out seven batters for her sixth win (6-0) on the season. She also contributed with one hit and one run. Pitcher Desmen Depaulis took the loss. She was on the mound for five innings and allowed four hits and two unearned runs.
Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with two hits (four at bats) and one RBI. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored one run.
In the first inning, DeDomenico reached on a fielder's choice. She went to second on designated player
Morgan Smith's (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) walk and moved to third when Gerard singled. DeDomenico scored on a passed ball. The Profs' second run came in the top of the third. Baldassari got on base with a throwing error. With one out, Smith walked and Baldassari advanced to second. Gerard had a single through the left side, scoring Baldassari.
Dubuque right-hander Mackenzie Kyle threw a complete game for the shutout. She scattered five hits and had six strikeouts. Pitcher
Ashley Lesch (jr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) had the loss. She (3-1) went 4.1 innings and gave up five hits and one earned run.
Catcher Courtney Markin and left fielder Taylor Allard each had a double for the Spartans. Allard contributed with one RBI and Markin scored one run. Shortstop Nikki Blum added one hit and one run. Baldassari collected two hits in four at bats and Smith posted a double.
Dubuque scored one run in the third and sixth innings. In the third, Blum singled and she stole second. Center fielder Dia Borden plated Blum with a base hit up the middle. Markin led off the sixth with a double to left center. Allard followed with a double down the left field line and Markin crossed the plate.
Next week, Rowan travels to Neumann University on Thursday, March 20 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
