Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team shut out Wheaton College (MA), 17-0 in six innings and McDaniel College, 5-0 on Wednesday. The Profs, ranked seventh in the nation, are undefeated with a 14-0 record.
Rowan exploded for 12 runs in the top of the sixth inning versus Wheaton. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (jr. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls), pitcher
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) and designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) all contributed with two hits and three RBIs. Baldassari also scored three times and Smith had two doubles. Second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (so. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) and catcher
Nicole Paiotti (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) each chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Paiotti produced a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
Center fielder
Rosalie Hood (jr. Mullica Twp., NJ/Cedar Creek) had two hits, one RBI and two runs. First baseman Damirez Mercado (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) scored two runs. DeDomenico recorded the shutout and only allowed three hits. She (5-0) struck out six batters.
Right-hander
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the winning pitcher against McDaniel. She (6-0) threw a complete game and only allowed four hits. Righty Fiona Johnson had the loss on the mound. She (0-2) went 4.2 innings and gave up eight hits and five runs, two earned.
DeDomenico, Smith and Paiotti each posted two hits and one RBI. Baldassari and Breuninger both registered one RBI. Second baseman
Gianna Decker (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca), Hood, Baldassari, Smith and Paiotti each scored one run.
The Profs led 3-0 after the first inning. Smith drove in Hood with a single to center field. Breuninger and Paiotti had back-to-back walks with the bases loaded. Baldassari and Smith crossed the plate. Rowan added two more runs in the fifth. Decker came home when Baldassari had a bases loaded walk. DeDomencio had the RBI when she walked and Paiotti scored.
Rowan plays its final two games in Florida on Friday, March 17. The Profs face Hamilton College at 11:15 a.m. and the University of Dubuque at 1:30 p.m.
