Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team won two more games at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday. The Profs edged Transylvania University, 2-1 and shut out St. Norbert College, 5-0.
Rowan is undefeated with a 12-0 record. Right-hander
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the winning pitcher versus Transylvania and rookie
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) posted a save. Shannon (5-0) only gave up three hits and one run in four innings. DeDomenico allowed just one hit in three frames. Pitcher Renae Morton took the loss. She (2-3) surrendered six hits and two runs, one earned.
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) recorded a double and a home run. For St. Norbert, catcher Janelle Hynes had a RBI and right fielder Destiny Garcia scored the lone run.
In the second inning, Smith led off with a double down the right field line and she scored on an error. Transylvania tied the score in the bottom of the third. Hynes plated Garcia with a sacrifice bunt. With one out in the fourth, Smith hit a solo shot to center field. It was her third home run on the season.
Pitcher
Ashley Lesch (jr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) and DeDomenico combined for the shutout against St. Norbert. Lesch went 4.1 innings and allowed two hits for the win. In 2.2 innings, DeDomenico gave up one hit for her third save. Right-hander Emma Molenhouse was the losing pitcher.
DeDomenico contributed with a home run and three RBIs. Second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (so. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) chipped in with two hits (three at bats) and two RBIs. Right fielder
Rosalie Hood (jr. Mullica Twp., NJ/Cedar Creek) scored twice while first baseman
Damariz Mercado (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and Smith each crossed the plate one time.
The Profs had one run in the bottom of the third. Mercado scored on sac fly by DeDomenico. Rowan added two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Breuninger drove in Smith and Hood with a single down the left field line in the fifth. DeDomenico's home run came in the sixth and Hood also scored.
Next, Rowan plays Wheaton College (MA) on Wednesday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. and McDaniel College at 3:45 p.m.
