Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh, 2-0 and Gustavus Adolphus College, 6-2 on Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games. The Profs are undefeated with an 8-0 record.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) only allowed one hit in the shutout over Plattsburgh. DeDomenico (4-0) totaled eight strikeouts. Pitcher Katie Pitkin had the loss.
Designated player
Morgan Smith (jr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) produced three hits (four at bats), a double and two RBIs. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) contributed with three hits in four trips to the plate, two runs and three stolen bases.
The Profs scored one run in the top of the third inning. Genello led off with a single. She stole second and went to third on DeDomenico's base hit. Smith had a double down the left field line and Genello scored. Rowan's second run came in the seventh. Genello reached base with a bunt. She stole second and moved to third on a ground out. Smith singled through the right side and Genello went home.
Righty
Lauren Shannon (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had the win on the mound against Gustavus Adolphus. Shannon (3-0) scattered three hits and the two runs were unearned. She struck out seven batters. Hannah Heacox was the losing pitcher.
Genello compiled three hits in four at bats and scored two runs. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) recorded a two-run homer. Smith chipped in with two hits and one RBI. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added one RBI and one run. DeDomenico scored two runs.
Gustavus Adolphus got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Left fielder Kim Kurtzweg reached on a fielder's choice and shortstop Rachel Malo scored. Heacox crossed the plate on a ground out. Rowan took the lead with four runs in the bottom half. Genello had a single up the middle and scored later on an error. Gerard registered a RBI single and Anderson followed with a two-run shot to left field.
The Profs added one run in the fifth and sixth innings. Second baseman
Rachel Breuninger (so. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) walked with the bases loaded in the fifth and DeDomenico scored. In the sixth, Smith plated Genello with a single up the middle.
Rowan plays SUNY Cortland on Sunday, March 12 at 11:15 a.m. and Franklin & Marshall College at 3:45 p.m.
