RADNOR, PA – The Rowan University women's basketball team suffered an 80-66 setback to the host Cavaliers in the Cabrini University Classic on Sunday.
The Profs head into 2018 with a 6-5 record while the Cavaliers are 7-2 overall. In the other contest on Sunday, Widener University edged Eastern University, 72-70. The opening round of the tournament on Saturday, Dec. 30 was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Cabrini guard/forward Lexi Edwards (fr. Jamison, PA/Central Bucks S.) totaled 18 points and four steals. Forward Sabrina Hackendorn (jr. Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) produced a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Ashley Tutzauer (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) Forwards Kate Lannon (fr. Aston, PA/Sun Valley) and Meghan Matthews (so. Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) contributed with nine and eight points respectively. Forward Nomi Washington (jr. Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) grabbed nine boards.

Alex Raring (sr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) led Rowan with a game-high 22 points. Guard
Summer Crilley (sr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) tallied 15 points while center
April Szymczyk (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) posted 11 points and nine rebounds. Guard
Olivia Rulon (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) chipped in with eight points.
The teams went back and forth in the early going with the Profs holding a 12-11 edge (4:00). The Cavaliers went on an 11-0 run to take a 22-12 lead (0:59). Tutzauer led the charge with six points. Cabrini ended the period ahead by 12 (25-13) after Tutzauer's three (0:14). Szymczyk made a layup (6:15) to make the score 29-19. The Cavaliers were up by 15 (36-21) after a layup by Hackendorn (2:54). Rowan outscored Cabrini, 11-4 in the final minutes to trail by eight (40-32) at the break. Five different players scored in the stretch.
In the third, Raring's layup cut the deficit to six (44-38) with 6:44 on the clock. The Cavaliers went on a 17-4 rally that increased the advantage to 19 (61-42) with 1:38 to play. Seven players scored in the run, led by Edwards' five. Raring had a layup to close the gap to 63-51 with 8:41 to go in the fourth. Cabrini pulled away with 13 of the next 17 points and had its largest lead of 21 (76-55) with 3:24 remaining.
The Profs open the New Year at conference foe Kean University on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.
