Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Frostburg State University, 95-92 in the consolation game of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament on Saturday.
The Profs (7-5) had five players in double figures. Guard
DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) led the way with 19 points and guard
Jeff Haddock (so. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) contributed with 15. Curry was named to the All-Tournament Team. Forward
Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
Forwards
TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Austin Kearney (so. Monroeville, NJ/Gloucester County Christian) each chipped in with 11 points. Guard
Rob DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) dished seven assists and guard
Nick DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) had five.
Hobart guard/forward Daniel Alexander (so. Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery) led all scorers with 22 points. He was eight for 11 from the floor with two three-pointers and four for nine from the line. Guard/forward Tyler Michael (sr. Cresaptown, MD/Fort Hill) followed with 21 points and five rebounds.
Forwards Darren Campbell (sr. Upper Marlboro, MD/Riverdale Baptist) and Edwin Cole (jr. Beltsville, MD/High Point) added 12 and 11 points respectively. Cole also grabbed seven rebounds. Guard/forward Christopher Coston (sr. Baltimore, MD/Kenwood) registered 10 points and six boards. Guard Lawrence Pettis (so. Baltimore, MD/Perry Hall) collected eight assists.
The score was tied six times in the second half with the last at 79 with 6:33 remaining. Rowan scored seven straight points to lead 86-79 with 4:39 on the clock. Curry made five points and Kearney had two. The Profs were ahead 91-83 after
Nick DePersia's three-pointer at the three-minute mark. The Bobcats pulled within one (91-90) at 1:08 after a 7-0 spurt. Cole sank two foul shots (1:50) while Michael made a layup (1:38) and a three (1:08).
Forward
Tommy Smierciak (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) had a basket (0:58) and the score was 93-90. Campbell's jumper (0:42) was the last points for Frostburg State (93-92).
Rob DePersia (0:04) ended the game with two free throws. Curry was Rowan's scoring leader in the final period with 13 points.
There were six lead changes and three ties in the first half. Wright sank two foul shots (4:35), which knotted the score at 35. Michael's layup (4:02) put Frostburg State up 40-35. Rowan was ahead 43-42 after Smierciak had a basket (2:56) and Haddock drilled a three (2:25). Michael hit a jumper (1:13) to take back the lead (44-43). Guard
Walter Harvey's (fr. Woolwich, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) layup at the one-second mark gave the Profs a one-point advantage (45-44) at intermission. Wright led Rowan with 11 points while Michael had 10 for Frostburg State.
In the first round on Friday, Hobart College had an 84-79 win over Rowan and host Randolph-Macon defeated Frostburg State, 72-60.
Next week, Rowan travels to conference opponent Kean University on Wednesday, Jan. 3 for an 8 p.m. contest.
