Connors Sends Men's Soccer To NJAC Title Game With Overtime Buzzer-Beater

Midfielder Jake Connors
Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – Midfielder Jake Connors' shot crossed the goal line with under a second remaining in the second overtime period and the Rowan University men's soccer team stunned Stockton University, 1-0 in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.

With time winding down, the Profs were pressuring in the Ospreys' end. A blocked shot ricocheted to Connors (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) on the right side. He settled the ball and shot from 20 yards out, with the ball just entering the left side of the net before the final horn.

The improbable goal sends top-seeded Rowan (17-2-1) to the NJAC Championship Game versus the second seed Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in Glassboro. The Scarlet Raiders defeated the third seed Montclair State University, 2-1 in the other semifinal. Stockton ends the season with a 14-4-4 record. The Ospreys were the fifth seed in the conference tournament.

The Profs generated plenty of chances throughout the game but could not find the back of the net through 109 minutes. Rowan had a 26-5 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) made one save for his sixth shutout. Stockton goalie Kellen Groover (sr. Florence, NJ/Life Center Academy) had some impressive stops and finished with nine saves.
