Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a home tri-match on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs fell to Shenandoah University, 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-10) then recovered to defeat Arcadia University, 3-1 (33-31, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21). The Knights topped the Hornets, 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19) in the middle match. Rowan is 10-12 overall, Arcadia has a 13-8 record and Shenandoah has a 6-13 mark.

Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) paced the Profs with 16 kills versus the Knights. Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) contributed with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Setter
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) produced 30 assists and setter
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) added 20. Four players reached double figures in digs, led by middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) with 18. Defensive specialist/libero
Emma Cormican (fr. Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) and defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) recorded 14 apiece while Mock chipped in with 12.
Arcadia outside hitter/opposite Lizzie Joseph (jr. Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) registered 18 kills followed by outside hitter Shannon Ryan (so. East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) with 13. Setter Colleen Stengel (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower Catholic) totaled 44 assists. Libero/defensive specialist Emily Eng (so. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) had a match-high 20 digs and defensive specialist Mackenzie Hale (so. St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy) posted 17. Defensive specialist Kayla Resh (jr. York, PA/Central York) and Stengel added 12 and 11 digs respectively.
The Profs trailed 23-21 in the opening set before tying the score at 23 on two Knights' errors. The teams then traded points until it was 31-30 in favor of Arcadia. Rowan was able to take the stanza with three straight points. Gallagher had a kill and the Profs benefitted from a pair of miscues by the Knights.
Arcadia jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never trailed on the way to a second set victory. The script flipped in the third frame with Rowan taking an early 6-1 advantage. With a two-point cushion (18-16), the Profs used a 6-0 run to take control on the way to winning the set. Rowan was behind for the early portion of the final stanza. Alexa Gasser (fr. Broomall, PA/Villa Maria Academy) and Modica each recorded two kills in the run. The match ended on a kill by Gallagher.
For the Hornets, outside hitter Kaitlyn Kelley (sr. Broadlands, VA/Briar Woods) tallied 16 kills and 23 digs. Middle blocker Caylin Harris (jr. Portsmouth, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) produced 10 kills. Setters Emily Veach (fr. Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley) and Megan Hillyard (fr. Winchester, VA/James Wood) amassed 20 and 19 assists respectively. Defensive specialist Nicole Shannon (jr. Fredericksburg, VA/Riverbend) recorded 21 digs and Hillyard added 13.
Gallagher, middle hitter/opposite
Jamie Shirtz (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) and Modica registered 16, 14 and 10 kills respectively. Paxson totaled 25 assists and 11 digs and Mock had 18 helpers. Keegan landed four service aces. Staiber totaled 12 digs and Cormican added 10.
Rowan returns to conference play with a trip to New Jersey City University on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
