Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team came back from a two-set deficit to force a fifth frame but Cabrini University was victorious, 3-2 in a non-conference match on Friday night.
The set scores were 25-20, 25-8, 14-25, 25-27 and 15-12. The Profs fall to 9-11 overall while the Cavaliers have a 15-4 record.
Cabrini opened the decisive stanza with five straight points. The score was 9-4 before Rowan tallied three in a row to close the gap to two (9-7). Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and defensive specialist/outside hitter
Alexa Gasser (fr. Broomall, PA/Villa Maria Academy) each recorded a kill and the Cavaliers committed an error.
The Cavaliers had an 11-7 lead before three more points from the Profs made the score 11-10. Defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) posted a service ace between a pair of Cabrini miscues. The teams traded points until it was 13-12 in favor of the Cavaliers. Cabrini secured the win with kills from middle blocker Chelsea Jones (sr. Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) and outside hitter Steph Judkins (fr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge).
Judkins ended the match with 16 kills while outside hitter Morgan Collito (fr. Wrightstown, PA/Council Rock N.) added 12. Setter Olivia Blankenbiller (so. Sinking Spring, PA/Berks Catholic) totaled 45 assists. Libero Ashley Shannon (jr. Bridgeport, PA/Upper Merion) registered 19 digs and opposite Emily Shannon (jr. Bridgeport, PA/Upper Merion) contributed with 10.
For Rowan, Jacobi posted 19 kills, tying her career high. Outside hitter
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) chipped in with nine kills. Setters Taylor Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) produced 30 and 16 assists respectively. Middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) tallied 17 digs, Staiber added 13 and defensive specialist
Emma Cormican (fr. Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) recorded 12.
The Cavaliers didn't trail in the first set. The Profs were within two (22-20) but kills by middle blocker Lauren Coscia (fr. Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Collito plus a Rowan error ended the frame. Cabrini scored the first five points on the way to a second set victory.
The Profs were down 8-7 in the third set before going on a 9-0 run. Outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne), Gasser and Modica recorded one kill apiece and Rowan benefitted from six errors by the Cavaliers. Middle hitter
Lauren Horbacewicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) finished off the set with a kill.
Cabrini got off to a quick start again in the fourth, jumping to a 4-0 advantage. The Cavaliers held the upper hand until Jacobi's kill tied the score at 13. The Profs trailed 21-18 before taking the lead with four consecutive points. Modica posted two kills, Gallagher had one and Cabrini committed an error. The Cavaliers fought off two set points before a ball handling error and a kill by Jacobi sent the match to five sets.
Next, Rowan hosts a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Profs play Shenandoah University at 11 a.m. and Arcadia University at 3 p.m.
