Women's Volleyball Closes Season With 3-1 Loss At Montclair State In NJAC Tournament

Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team had its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss at Montclair State University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
 
The set scores were 25-11, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-22. The Profs finish the year with a 12-20 record. They were the fifth seed in the conference playoffs. The fourth-seeded Red Hawks (14-19) advance to a semifinal matchup at the top seed Kean University on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
 
Outside hitter/middle blocker Schyler White (so. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) led Montclair State with 15 kills. Setter/right side/outside hitter April DiAngelo (jr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) produced 12 kills, four service aces and 11 digs. Setter Ashley Griffith (jr. Westwood, NJ/Westwood) totaled 46 assists, three service aces and 10 digs.
 
Middle blocker Caitlin Lange (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) tallied eight blocks and right side Natalia Majkut (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) added six. Libero Lily Scanzillo (sr. Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands) and defensive specialist/libero Alexandra Campos (fr. Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) contributed with 18 and 12 digs respectively.
 
Rowan outside hitter Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) recorded 10 kills. Middle hitter/opposite Gina Kisley (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) registered nine kills and six blocks. Setters Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) amassed 22 and 18 assists respectively.
 
Middle hitter/opposite Jamie Shirtz (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham) chipped in with seven blocks and outside hitter/opposite Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had five. Middle hitter Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and outside hitter Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) tallied 15 and 12 digs respectively.
 
In the opening set, the Profs had a 6-5 advantage. The Red Hawks followed with 12 straight points to go ahead 17-6. DiAngelo sparked the rally with seven kills. Montclair State took the frame with a kill by Griffith. The score was 2-2 early in the second stanza. The Red Hawks posted four points in a row and did not trail for the rest of the set.
 
In the third, Rowan was down 21-18 before rallying to tie. The teams exchanged points until Montclair State had a 23-22 edge. The Profs responded with three consecutive points to stay alive in the match. Kisley and Jacobi each had a kill and the Red Hawks committed an error. In the final frame, Rowan had an 18-16 lead. Montclair State went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 23-18 advantage. The Profs were able to close the gap to 24-22 before White ended the match with a kill.
