Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to visiting Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night.
The set scores were 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20 and 16-14. The Profs are 9-10 overall while the Red Hawks have a 9-8 record. Both teams are 2-3 in the conference.
The score was tied at four in the final set. Three Montclair State errors gave Rowan a 7-4 advantage. The Profs went ahead 9-5 on kills by middle hitter/opposite

Jamie Shirtz (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham). Another Shirtz kill made the score 10-6 before two Rowan miscues cut the deficit to two (10-8). The Profs were up 12-9 after a kill by outside hitter
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink).
Right side Natalia Majkut (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) recorded a kill between two Rowan errors and the score was even at 12 apiece. A blunder by the Red Hawks put the Profs ahead 14-13. However, Montclair State rallied with kills by outside hitter Sarah Gonczlik (fr. Rahway, NJ/Mother Seton Reg.), outside hitter/right side Schyler White (so. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) and middle blocker Jillian Wilson (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) to steal the match.
Wilson and White finished with 13 kills apiece. Setter Ashley Griffith (jr. Westwood, NJ/Westwood) totaled 44 assists. Four Red Hawks ended with double-digit digs. Libero Lily Scanzillo (sr. Upper Saddle River, NJ/Northern Highlands) led with 14 digs and setter/right side/outside hitter April DiAngelo (jr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) followed with 12. White and Gonczlik registered 11 and 10 digs respectively.
Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) paced Rowan with 14 kills. She posted a .303 hitting percentage. Modica and outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) produced 12 and 10 kills respectively. Setter
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) tallied 24 assists and setter
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) added 23. Paxson also had 15 digs and five service aces. Defensive specialist/libero
Amy Staiber (so. Morton, PA/Ridley) contributed with 16 digs and middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) chipped in with 15.
The Profs trailed 10-9 in the opening set but took control with a 9-2 run. Jacobi led the charge with three kills. Rowan won the stanza on an error. The score was tied at 22 in the second frame before Montclair State recorded three of the final four points, ending with Gonczlik's kill.
The Profs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in set three and never trailed after that. Paxson had three service aces in the stretch. Modica's kill gave Rowan a 2-1 advantage in the match. The Red Hawks led 19-16 in the fourth set. Kills by Gonczlik, Wilson and White and a Profs' error gave them a seven-point cushion (23-16) and they would go on to force the deciding frame.
The volleyball team is home again on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. versus Cabrini University.
