Hendrickson Completes Comeback For Men's Soccer In 3-2 Overtime Victory At Muhlenberg

Forward Matt Hendrickson
Box Score ALLENTOWN, PA – Forward Matt Hendrickson scored the winning goal with 29 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to give the 10th-ranked Rowan University men's soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Muhlenberg College on Tuesday night.

Hendrickson (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) hit the back of the net off a counter attack. Midfielder Jake Connors (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and forward Shane Doherty (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) assisted on the tally. It was the sixth straight victory for the Profs (11-2). The Mules drop to 2-6-2 on the season.

Hendrickson became the hero only after back Will Sjaastad (jr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) netted the tying goal with just 1:02 left in regulation. He blasted a kick into the upper part of the cage.

It was a thrilling conclusion to a wild game featuring 35 shots and 12 corner kicks. Rowan had the advantage in both, 22-13 in shots and 9-3 in corners. However, it was Muhlenberg who got on the scoreboard first at 35:52. Back/midfielder Brian Heckman (jr. Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) sent a pass ahead to midfielder Mark Winter (fr. Clinton, NJ/North Hunterdon). Winter booted a cross and back Cameron Miller (fr. Mendham, NJ/Gill St. Bernard's) headed the ball into the net.

Back Ryan Logar (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) evened the score at 55:59. Back Nick Schlageter (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) found Doherty with a pass. Doherty fired a shot off the crossbar and Logar deposited the rebound. The Mules took the advantage again at 64:04. Miller had a throw-in and forward Matthew Athanas-Linden (so. Bethesda, MD/Mercersburg Academy (PA)) headed it past the goalkeeper. The score remained 2-1 until Sjaastad sent the match into overtime.

Goalkeeper Erik Checkur (jr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) made eight saves to remain unbeaten at 7-0. Goalie Jordan Schreer (jr. Towaco, NJ/Gill St. Bernard's) stopped seven shots for Muhlenberg.

Next, the Profs host conference foe Montclair State University on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
