Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The Rowan University women's volleyball team opened the New York Regional Challenge with a 3-2 loss to SUNY Fredonia on Friday night.
The set scores were 25-17, 16-25, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-13. The Profs drop to 12-17 overall while the Blue Devils have a 19-9 record.
Outside hitter Kailey Falk (jr. York, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led Fredonia with 20 kills and 10 digs. Outside hitter Kristen Stanek (sr. Hamburg, NY/Orchard Park) totaled 14 kills and outside hitter/libero Rachel Aiello (jr. Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) produced 12 kills and 18 digs. Setter Hallie Christopher (sr. East Amherst, NY/Clarence) registered 53 assists and 13 digs. Liberos Courtney Poirier (sr. West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Rachel Poirier (sr. West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) tallied 16 digs apiece.
For Rowan, outside hitter/opposite
Kailey Gallagher (so. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) recorded 15 kills and outside hitter
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) contributed with 12 kills and 14 digs. Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and middle hitter/opposite
Gina Kisley (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) totaled nine kills apiece and Kisley added 11 digs and six blocks. Setters
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) tallied 27 and 26 assists respectively. Libero
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) chipped in with 21 digs.
In the opening set, Fredonia had a 10-9 lead and increased it with a 6-1 run. Rowan closed the gap to 20-17 but the Blue Devils tallied the final five points to grab the frame. After the Profs claimed the second stanza, Fredonia jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the third. Rowan trailed 15-13 before a 6-0 Blue Devils' rally upped the margin to eight (21-13) before Fredonia won the set.
After the Blue Devils recorded the first point in the fourth, the Profs posted the next four points and never trailed on their way to forcing a decisive fifth set. Rowan was ahead 6-5 before Fredonia had a crucial 7-1 run to take a commanding 12-7 lead. The Profs were able to get within one twice before the Blue Devils finished the match with a kill.
Rowan wraps up the tournament on Saturday, Oct. 28 with matches versus Nazareth College at 10:30 a.m. and Buffalo State College at 2:30 p.m.
