Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to visiting Swarthmore College on Thursday night.
The set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 26-28 and 25-21. The Profs have an 11-13 record while the Garnet is 15-5 overall. It was Swarthmore's ninth straight victory.
Outside hitter Sarah Wallace (sr. San Francisco, CA/Branson) led the Garnet with 17 kills and 16 digs. Outside hitter Mehra den Braven (so. Santa Clara, CA/Pinewood) posted 10 kills and 14 digs. Setter Malia Scott (sr. Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) amassed 48 assists and 14 digs. Defensive specialist Sarah Girard (jr. Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) totaled 22 digs while defensive specialist Guin Mesh (jr. Pleasantville, NY/Byram Hills) contributed with 11 digs and four service aces.
Rowan outside hitters
Megan Jacobi (so. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and
Taylor Modica (fr. Newark, DE/Appoquinimink) tallied 11 kills apiece. Setters
Katelyn Paxson (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and
Tori Mock (fr. Chadds Ford, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) recorded 17 and 15 assists respectively. Paxson also had 12 digs. Libero
Emma Cormican (fr. Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) registered 18 digs and middle hitter
Erin Keegan (jr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) added 13.
Swarthmore had two separate 8-1 runs on the way to an opening set victory. The Garnet also scored the final six points of the stanza, which ended on a kill by outside hitter Bridget Scott (sr. Media, PA/Strath Haven). They jumped out to a 12-1 advantage in the second frame. It closed out the set on another kill by Bridget Scott.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair with 14 ties. The Profs broke through for the last three points to cut the deficit to 2-1. Jacobi and Modica each had a kill and Swarthmore committed an error. Rowan led 19-18 in the fourth stanza but the Garnet produced seven of the final nine points to take the match.
The women's volleyball team returns to conference action versus Ramapo College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
