Rutgers-Camden Women's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 84-75

GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Rutgers-Camden women's basketball team defeated Rowan University, 84-75 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Wednesday night.
 
Guard Gabby Greene (so. Howell, NJ/Howell) led the Scarlet Raptors with 11 three-pointers for 33 points.  She broke the school record for threes in a game (8) and also recorded a career-high in points.  Guard Jovan Childers (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) totaled 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists. 
 
Forward/center Michelle Obasi (jr. Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) contributed with 14 points and guard/forward Cara Racobaldo (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) followed with 12.  They each grabbed eight boards.  Racobaldo also dished seven assists.  Guard/forward Ariel Robinson (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and forward/center Caroline Santiago (sr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) pulled down seven and six rebounds respectively.
 
Rutgers-Camden is 12-6 overall and 6-5 in the conference.  Rowan has a 13-6 record with a 7-5 NJAC mark. 
 
The Profs had five players in double figures.  Guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) scored 18 points and guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) tallied 12 points and six rebounds.  Guard Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) collected 11 points while center April Szymczyk (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) and guard Olivia Rulon (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) each registered 10.  Guard Valerie Garofalo (sr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) dished six assists and had six rebounds.
 
The Scarlet Raptors started the first quarter with 11 straight points in 2:58.  Greene hit two threes in the run.  Childers' layup made the score 13-2 at 6:34.  The Profs trailed by three (13-10) at 4:37 after an 8-0 spurt.  Crilley and Kriley each had a three-pointer while Szymczyk added a basket.  Greene gave Rutgers-Camden a 10-point advantage (20-10) with a three at 2:46.  Sanchez produced five consecutive points and cut the deficit to four (25-21) with 22 seconds left.  Childers ended the scoring with a layup (0:11) and the Scarlet Raptors had a six-point lead going into the second stanza.
 
Guard/forward Alex Raring (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) scored with a jumper (8:53) and added a free throw (8:27) while Crilley followed with a jump shot (7:05) to pull the Profs within one (27-26).  Rutgers-Camden led by five (35-30) at 3:49 after a triple by Greene.  She nailed her sixth three-pointer to increase the advantage to 12 points (44-32) with 1:11 remaining.  Rulon made a three (0:55) and Sanchez had a layup (0:24).  Rowan was down 44-37 at the break. 
 
Rutgers-Camden had a 17-point lead (60-43) at 5:27 with a layup by Racobaldo in the third period.  Kriley made a basket (2:08) and the Profs had an 11-point deficit (63-52).  Childers and Greene drilled back-to-back three-pointers to lead by 17 (69-52) with 14 seconds on the clock.  The Scarlet Raptors were ahead 69-55 at the end of the third quarter.  They had their biggest lead of 22 points twice (78-56 at 6:40, 80-58 at 5:40) in the last stanza.  With 1:04 left, Rowan pulled within 10 (83-73) after a 15-3 surge.  Sanchez and Kriley each contributed with four points.  Childers had a foul shot (0:20) and Crilley scored with a jumper (0:01) for the final score.        
 
Next, Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a 3 p.m. game.
