GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's swimming and diving team defeated The College of New Jersey, 178-122 on Saturday and captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship.
It is the Profs' 14th conference title. The victory ended TCNJ's reign of 10 straight conference championships. Rowan is undefeated with a 7-0 record and a final 4-0 NJAC mark. The College of New Jersey is 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Rowan took first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.29. The medley relay included
Dan Lawton (so. Yardley, PA/Pennsbury),
Matt Grubb (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.),
Nick Marks (sr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and
Jesse Novak (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan).
Eric Feuerstein (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit),
Nate Wojtowicz (so. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County),
Anthony Czar (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Novak were on the second place (3:09.15) 400 freestyle relay.
Novak was the winner in the 50 (20.60) and 100 (45.05) freestyles. Marks won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.18 and was second (51.20) in the 100 butterfly.
John Tepper (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Atlantic County Institute of Tech.) had a winning time of 9:57.09 in the 1000 freestyle. He also had a second place (4:46.29) in the 500 freestyle.
Paul Long (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) swam 57.75 in the 100 breaststroke for first place while
Mike Simunek (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) and Grubb captured second (57.97) and third place (58.46). Simunek won the 200 breaststroke (2:07.12) and 200 individual medley (1:57.68). Long had a second place (2:09.11) in the 200 breaststroke and was third (1:59.77) in the 200 individual medley.
In diving,
Sean Piacente (so. New City, NY/Clarkstown S.) came in first on the three-meter board with 393.83 points. He also won the one-meter diving (337.43).
John Morris (sr. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) finished second (354.30) and
Mike Grubb (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) was third (309.68) in the three-meter diving. Morris came in second (330.00) in the one-meter and
Mike Grubb was third (299.55).
In the 100 backstroke,
Adam Sicinski (so. Allentown, PA/Parkland) finished second (52.84) and Lawton was third (52.93). Czar had a third place (1:44.61) in the 200 freestyle.
John Shellem (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) took third (1:58.14) in the 200 butterfly. Wojtowicz finished third (21.89) in the 50 free.
Jake Kayati (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) had a third place (52.05) in the 100 butterfly.
TCNJ was the winner in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:06.59. The relay consisted of Scott Vitabile (sr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown), Ryan Gajdzisz (sr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), Alex Skoog (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Andrew Nesbitt (sr. Somerset, NJ/Saint Joseph's). The 200 medley relay with Adam Coppola (jr. Kearny, NJ/High Tech), Nesbitt, Skoog and Gajdzisz finished second in 1:35.05.
Gajdzisz took first (1:42.72) in the 200 freestyle and Vitabile was second (1:43.68). Gajdzisz won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.72. Vitabile also came in first (51.14) in the 100 butterfly and he had a second place (46.63) in the 100 free. Skoog was the winner in the 100 (52.31) and 200 (1:54.12) backstrokes.
