Women's Basketball Scores 26 Points In Fourth Quarter For 62-46 Win Over Stockton

GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Rowan University women's basketball team outscored Stockton University, 26-8 in the fourth quarter to win 62-46 on Wednesday night.
 
The Ospreys were ahead 38-36 going into the final period.  The Profs were down by one (40-39) at the 9:16 mark.  Guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) contributed with six of Rowan's 12 straight points to lead 51-40 (6:01).  Forward Najha Treadwell (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two points at the line (3:44) and Stockton pulled within eight (51-43).  Rowan followed with 11 more points for a 19 point advantage (62-43) at the 44 second mark.  Sanchez produced six points in the surge. Guard Nicole Byrne (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) hit a three (0:20) for the Ospreys to end the scoring. 
 
Sanchez compiled 30 points and is now tied for ninth on the University's all-time scorers list with 1,095 points.  She is tied with Karen Dilmore (1988-92).  Sanchez also grabbed 12 boards and recorded a career-high eight steals.  Guard Mandy Jiang (sr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) and center April Szymczyk (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) each added six points.  Guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) pulled down seven rebounds while guard Valerie Garofalo (sr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) dished four assists.
 
The Profs are 13-4 overall and 7-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Ospreys have an 11-5 record and a 6-3 conference mark. 
 
Guard Taylor Christina (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) led Stockton with 11 points and guard Lea Mendolla (jr. Nutley, NJ/Mount St. Dominic) followed with nine points and eight rebounds. 
Forward/center Sasha Williams (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and Treadwell each totaled eight points.  Williams also registered 11 boards while Treadwell had 10. 
 
Crilley hit a jumper at 6:39 in the first quarter and Rowan trailed 6-4.  Stockton answered with nine straight points to lead 15-4 with 3:56 remaining.  Mendolla contributed with six points in the run.  Sanchez ended the period with five unanswered points and the Ospreys led 17-13 going into the second stanza.  Treadwell's layup put Stockton up 19-13 at 8:22.  Rowan took the lead 22-21 (1:09) with an 11-2 surge.  Sanchez ended the rally with a basket and a three-pointer.  Guard Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) followed with two free throws (0:49) for the Profs and Mendolla had one (0:11).  Rowan was ahead 24-22 at the break.
 
The score was tied at 26 with 7:43 remaining in the third stanza.  Stockton led by five (31-26) after a layup and foul shot by Williams and a Christina layup.  Sanchez's basket (2:35) and free throw (2:18) cut the deficit to one (33-32).  Christina nailed a three (1:53) and made a layup (0:49) for a six point advantage (38-32).  Jiang drilled a three-pointer and Sanchez added a foul shot, which made the score 38-36 at the end of the quarter.
 
Rowan travels to William Paterson University on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
