Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team lost its first two matches of the season at the Labor Day Invitational on Friday. The two-day event concludes on Saturday.
It was the first competition of the season for all participating teams. The Profs fell to Widener University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20 and 25-21) and Swarthmore College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-11). In the other matches, Eastern University defeated Muhlenberg College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16 and 25-20), Eastern won 3-0 over Swarthmore (25-20, 25-16 and 25-15), Muhlenberg had a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12 and 25-18) win over Emmanuel College and Widener won 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-16) versus Emmanuel.
Against the Pride, outside hitters
Megan Jacobi (fr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) and
Erica O'Hagan (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) each had nine kills. Jacobi also tallied six digs. Setter
Mary-Grace Testa (jr. Kearny, NJ/Mount St. Dominic Academy) recorded 14 assists and eight digs. Defensive specialist/libero
Rebecca Dantonio (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) collected nine digs.
For Widener, outside hitter/right side Nicole Dorman (so. East Norriton, PA/Pope John Paul II) had 12 kills and 10 digs. Setter Sabrina Barbieri (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Penncrest) accumulated 26 assists and 10 digs. Libero/defensive specialist Lauren Elliott (sr. Aston, PA/Sun Valley) picked up 15 digs.
O'Hagan tallied 10 kills against the Garnet. Testa had 16 assists and five digs. Dantonio and
Katelyn Paxson (fr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) collected nine and eight digs respectively.
Swarthmore was led by outside hitter Sarah Wallace (jr. San Francisco, CA/Branson) who recorded 11 kills and six digs. Setter Malia Scott (jr. Lake Oswego, OR/Lakeridge) had 17 assists and seven digs, while setter Elise Cummings (so. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) accumulated 10 assists. Defensive specialist Sarah Girard (so. Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) had 10 digs.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, Rowan faces Muhlenberg at 11 a.m. and Eastern at 3 p.m.
