Box Score 2 MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won two games at Montclair State University on Friday. The Profs had a 16-0 shutout in the first contest and a 13-4 victory in the second. Both games only went five innings because of the eight-run rule.
Rowan has a 20-6 record with a 3-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Montclair State is 14-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was the winning pitcher in the opener. She (10-2) only allowed one hit in four innings and she struck out six batters. Pitcher Brooke Powers (sr. Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) had the loss.
Designated player
Ashley DeYoung (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) was three for three at the plate with one home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) totaled three hits (four at bats), a home run, three RBIs and three runs. DeYoung registered a two run homer in the third inning and Smith followed with a solo shot. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) contributed with two hits, one double, three RBIs and one run.

Rookie
MacKenzie Juodaitis (fr. Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) threw three innings for the win in the nightcap. She (6-2) scattered four hits and gave up three runs, one earned. Right-hander
Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) was on the mound for the final two innings. Sam Keating (fr. Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) was the losing pitcher.
Paiotti tallied four RBIs with two hits (two at bats) and two runs. She recorded a grand slam in the third inning. DeYoung totaled two hits (two at bats), a home run, three RBIs and two runs.
