Box Score 2 NEWARK, NJ – The Rowan University softball team split the final doubleheader of the regular season at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. The Scarlet Raiders won the first game, 2-1 and the Profs took the second, 3-2.
Rowan is 32-8 overall and 15-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers-Newark has a 21-19 record with a 7-11 conference mark. The Profs are the number one seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament. The softball team will host a first round game on Tuesday, May 3 and the remainder of the tournament on Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8.
In the opener, Kelly Yusko (so. Portage, PA/Penn Cambria) was the winning pitcher. In seven innings, she (15-13) only gave up four hits and one unearned run. Righty-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) took the loss. She allowed four hits and two unearned runs.
The Profs scored their run in the top of the fifth inning. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) had a bunt single. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) reached base on a fielder's choice. She stole second and Genello went to third. On the play, Genello came home due to an error by the catcher. The Scarlet Raiders went ahead in the bottom half. Catcher Sam Held (so. Maywood, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and center fielder Samantha Hoffman (fr. Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) both crossed the plate on an error.
Right-hander
Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) went 6.2 innings for the victory in the nightcap. She (6-0) scattered six hits and allowed two runs, one earned. Nolan struck out six batters. Hyland pitched the final out and earned a save. Yusko threw 2.1 innings in the loss.

Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, NJ/Sussex Central) was two for four with one run scored. Third baseman
Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) contributed with two hits, a double, one RBI and one run. Genello chipped in with one hit and one RBI. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored one run. Yusko registered two hits and two RBIs for Rutgers-Newark.
The Profs led 2-0 after the second inning. Genello drove in Paiotti with a base hit to left field. Sims scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder
Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong NJ/Morris Knolls). In the third, Paiotti drove in Smith with a double down the left field line. The Scarlet Raiders had their two runs in the sixth inning. Yusko plated both runs with a double to right center.
