Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team shut out Ramapo College, 8-0 in six innings and 1-0 in a conference doubleheader on Monday.
In the first game, the Profs totaled 14 hits, six doubles, one triple and two home runs. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was three for four with a double, one home run and two runs. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) totaled three hits (four at bats), one double, one RBI and two runs. Second baseman
Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) contributed with three hits, one double and two RBIs.
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) chipped in with a homer and two RBIs. Third baseman
Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and first baseman
Damariz Mercado (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) each added one RBI.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) threw four innings in the first game for the win. She only gave up two hits and had six strikeouts.
Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) was on the mound for the final two innings. Pitcher Katrina Buczkowski (so. Buffalo, NY/Clarence) had the loss.
Rowan led 3-0 after the first inning. Baldassari's single to center field, scored Snead. Anderson drove in two runs with a double to left center field. In the third, Mercado had a RBI double. The Profs added three more runs in the fourth inning. Snead blasted a solo shot to center field while Smith posted a two run homer. Paiotti singled home the eighth run in the sixth inning.
Hyland pitched a complete game for the shutout in the second contest. She (12-2) allowed five hits and struck out six batters. It was only the second loss (8-2) on the season for pitcher Christina Brizek (so. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock).
Each team had five hits. Rowan has a 22-6 record with a 5-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ramapo is 13-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
The Profs' winning run came in the first inning. With two outs, Smith knocked in Baldassari with a single up the middle. Snead and Smith each ended the game with two hits while Anderson had one double.
Rowan travels to Stockton University on Tuesday, April 12 for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader.
