Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept Neumann University, 9-0 and 10-0 in the home opener on Thursday. Both games went five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Right-hander Beth Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) only allowed one hit in the first game. She (7-2) struck out 11 batters. Pitcher Michaela Pembleton (fr. Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) had the loss.
Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) was two for three at the plate with two RBIs, a triple and one run. Third baseman
Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) contributed with a home run and scored two runs. Designated player
Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) added a double, two RBIs and one run.
Second baseman
Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) chipped in with two hits, one double and two RBIs. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) scored three runs while shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and center fielder Gianna Gennello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) each had one run.
In the second inning, Anderson singled to left center, scoring Smith. The Profs led 4-0 after three runs in the third. DeYoung drove in two runs with a double down the left field line and Anderson followed with a RBI double. Rowan produced five runs in the fourth inning. Baldassari knocked in two runs with a triple and she crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Paiotti recorded a solo shot to left field. Pinch hitter
Sara Finnegan (jr. South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) had a RBI single.
In the nightcap, righty
MacKenzie Juodaitis (fr. Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) recorded the win on the mound. She (5-2) went three innings and gave up two hits. Haley Broomell (jr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) was the losing pitcher.
Snead totaled two hits, two RBIs, a home run and two runs. Baldassari tallied one hit, two RBIs and one run. Smith recorded a homer, two RBIs and two runs. Anderson added two RBIs and had one double. Paiotti scored two runs.
The Profs were up 2-0 in the first inning with a two-run homer by Smith. Rowan scored five runs in the second. Snead singled in one run and Baldassari had a two RBI base hit. Baldassari and Paiotti both crossed the plate on an error. In the fourth, Snead led off with a home run to center field. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) reached base with a double to left center field. Anderson's double scored Gerard and Smith.
