Softball Takes Two At Rebel Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL  – The Rowan University softball team defeated Skidmore College, 11-2 and the University of Dubuque, 13-1 on Sunday.  Both games were only five innings due to the eight-run rule.
 
Right-hander Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) had the win on the mound versus Skidmore.  She (1-0) pitched two relief innings and gave up two hits and two runs, one earned.  Nolan struck out four batters.  Casey Attonito was the losing pitcher. 
 
Catcher Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) led the Profs with three hits (three at bats), two RBIs, a home run and three runs.  Right fielder Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) contributed with two RBIs and one run.  Second baseman Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) scored two runs. 
 
Rowan was ahead 3-0 after the first inning.  Designated player Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) drove in shortstop Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) with a double down the left field line.  Paiotti recorded a two-run homer to center field. 
 
The Profs added four runs in the third inning.  Anderson scored on a fielder's choice with Smith at bat.  Left fielder Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) reached base with a fielder's choice, scoring left fielder Sammy Vradenburg (jr. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge).  Paiotti had a single to center field and later came home on a passed ball.
 
Skidmore's two runs came in the top of the fourth and Rowan had four in the bottom half.  Catcher Kristina Foley produced a two RBI double.  Anderson scored on Smith's ground out.  Pinch hitter Sara Finnegan (jr. South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick), first baseman Damariz Mercado (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield and third baseman Cassandra Gerard (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) all had RBI singles.
 
Against Dubuque, rookie MacKenzie Juodaitis (fr. Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) was the winning pitcher.  She (1-2) threw two shutout relief innings and did not allow a hit.  Right-hander Taylor Blair took the loss.
 
Snead was two for three at the plate and scored three runs.  Smith totaled four RBIs while center fielder Gianna Genello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) and catcher Angela Antonini (fr. Gibbstown, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each had two.  Baldassari produced two hits (two RBIs), one RBI and two runs.
 
Next, Rowan (7-5) plays SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. and Washington College (MD) at 3:45 p.m.
