Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team split a doubleheader against Clarkson University on Friday night. The Profs won the first game, 6-2 and the Knights had a 3-2 victory in the second.
Right-hander
Steve Priolo (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was the winning pitcher in the opener. In four innings, he (2-1) only allowed one hit and one unearned run. Righty Ian Castle went five innings in the loss. He gave up three hits and four unearned runs.
Third baseman
Jason Clapper (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and designated hitter
Monny Strickland (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) each contributed with two hits and one RBI. Clapper also scored one run. First baseman
Steven Todd (sr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) had one hit and one run.
The Profs scored four runs in the top of the fifth to go ahead 4-1. Left fielder
Nick Gallo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI) and Todd crossed the plate on an error. Clapper's single to center field scored center fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon). Stickland knocked in right fielder
Kyle Golla (jr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) with a base hit. Rowan added two runs in the seventh. Clapper singled and later came home on a passed ball. Catcher
Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) reached base on an error and pinch runner
Charlie Barebo (fr. Emmaus, PA/The Perkiomen School) scored.
In the nightcap, Clarkson took the lead 3-1 with two runs in the top of the seventh. Center fielder Dom Pirro drove in both runs with a double. Rowan had one run in the bottom half. Myers scored on a ground out by Phillips.
The Profs are 4-4 overall and the Knights have a 1-1 record. First baseman Greg Jasek gave Clarkson a 1-0 advantage with a RBI single in the first inning. Rowan tied the score in the fourth. Second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) recorded a triple and came home on error by the center fielder.
Rowan plays the defending NCAA Division III champion SUNY Cortland on Saturday, March 12 at 4 p.m.
