Box Score UNION, NJ – The Kean University men's basketball team won 65-62 over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
Forward Robbie Myers (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) had a layup with 39 seconds left in the final half, which gave the Cougars a 62-61 lead. He then made two foul shots (0:25) for a three-point advantage (64-61). Rowan had a free throw by guard
Kris O'Connor (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) at the 16-second mark. With 11 seconds on the clock, guard Kevin Grek (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) sank the first of two shots at the line for the three-point victory.
Kean has a 4-17 record with a 4-11 conference mark. The Profs are 8-14 overall and 5-10 in the NJAC.
Guard Jerry Crismond (so. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) led the Cougars with 18 points and five rebounds. Guard Diego Pujols (fr. Newark, NJ/Barringer) followed with 17 points and Myers contributed with 10. Grek pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Guard Jodrell Thompson (fr. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) and Myers each grabbed seven boards. Guard Justin Watson (fr. New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) chipped in with eight points.
For Rowan, forward
Chris Gross (sr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) totaled 12 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Josh Borrelli (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored 11 points and O'Connor had nine. O'Connor also registered six rebounds. Guard
Rob DePersia (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) added seven points and dished five assists.
The Profs led 30-26 going into the second stanza. Gross drained a three (17:04) and Rowan was ahead 37-31. Thompson had a layup (16:44) and Watson hit a three-pointer (15:58) to cut the deficit to one (37-36). Two baskets by Gross and one from DePersia put the Profs back up by seven (43-36) at 14:38. Rowan had an eight-point lead (53-45) after DePersia's layup with 10:15 remaining. Crismond nailed back-to-back threes (6:45, 5:52) to lead 60-59. O'Connor sank two foul shots (1:26) for a 61-60 advantage before Myers' layup at the 39-second mark. Crismond was the scoring leader with 13 points in the last period.
Rowan is home on Wednesday, Feb. 10 against Montclair State University at 8 p.m.
