Box Score 2 CARY, NC – The Rowan University softball team split its final two games in North Carolina on Sunday. The Profs had a 9-1 loss in six innings against Emory University and they defeated Salisbury University, 8-6.
The Eagles were ahead 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and they scored five runs. The game ended early because of the eight-run rule. Right-hander Brittany File was the winning pitcher. She (7-0) only allowed three hits and one earned run. She totaled eight strikeouts.
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had the loss on the mound.
Emory is undefeated with a 9-0 record. Catcher Melody Carter led the team with two hits (four at bats), two RBIs and one run. Left fielder Taylor Forte contributed with two hits in three at bats, one RBI and one run. Right fielder Jenna Wilson added two hits and scored one run. First baseman Ashley Powers chipped in with two RBIs. Shortstop Cassie Baca and Powers each recorded a home run.

Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) drove in Rowan's run in the fifth inning. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored after getting on base with a single.
Right-hander
Ashley Lesch (so. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) threw six innings for the win over Salisbury. She (1-1) scattered six hits and struck out eight batters. Alison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) picked up her second save. Pitcher Brooke Mizelle took the loss. The Profs are 2-4 on the season while the Seagulls have a 2-3 mark.

Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) produced three hits in four at bats and two runs. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) was two for three with two RBIs, one double and one run. Designated player
Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) recorded a two-run homer.
The Seagulls scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Profs went ahead 5-2 in the bottom half. Smith drove in two runs with a base hit to right field. Pinch hitter

Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) crossed the plate. Smith came home on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter

Damariz Mercado (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) stole home for the fifth run.
DeYoung's two-run shot came in the second inning for a 7-2 lead. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) had a stolen base for Rowan's final run in the third inning. Salisbury tallied one run in the top of the fourth and three in the seventh.
