Box Score 2 CARY, NC – The Rowan University softball team lost two games on its North Carolina trip on Saturday. Piedmont College defeated Rowan, 12-9 in nine innings and Berry College (GA) had an 11-4 victory.
It was a long day for the Profs because the games were delayed in the morning due to a muddy field and they had to push the games back and use another field.
Against Piedmont (2-1), Rowan had home runs by shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and designated player
Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) in the sixth inning, which tied the score at seven. The teams each had a run in the eighth. The Profs went up 9-8 in the top of the ninth. Third baseman
Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) stole third base and scored on designated player
Ashley DeYoung's (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) ground out. In the bottom half, the Lions won the game with a three-run homer by right fielder Allison Vaughn.
Second baseman
Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) ended the game with three hits (five at bats), three RBIs and one home run. Snead contributed with two hits in five at bats, two RBIs and two runs. She recorded her second homer of the season.
Versus Berry (8-1), Anderson produced her second home run on the day. She had two hits in four trips to the plate. Paiotti knocked in three runs with a double. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) went two for three and scored one run.
Rowan (1-3) has two more games at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Profs play Emory University and Salisbury University on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. and noon respectively.
