Women's Basketball Rallies For 65-58 Win At TCNJ

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team had a 65-58 come-from-behind victory at The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
 
The Profs improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Lions drop to 2-5 with a 1-3 NJAC mark.
 
Rowan trailed 52-46 with 7:49 to go in the contest. The Profs surged for 12 straight points to take their first lead of the game, 58-52 with 3:30 to play. Guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) led the charge with seven points, guard/forward Alex Raring (jr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) scored four points and guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) added a free throw.
 
TCNJ cut the deficit to two (58-56) with 1:22 on the clock. Sanchez made a layup (0:44) and Crilley sank a pair of foul shots (0:30) for a six-point advantage (62-56). After two points by the Lions (0:22), Raring made a free throw at the 21-second mark and Sanchez had a layup (0:19) to end the scoring.
 
Sanchez finished with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Crilley poured in 15 points and Raring contributed with nine. Guard Alexis Kriley (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and center April Szymczyk (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) chipped in with eight and seven points respectively. Forward Jenna Hoffner (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) collected seven rebounds and Szymczyk corralled six boards.
 
Forward Nikki Schott (jr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) led TCNJ with 15 points. Guard Kate O'Leary (so. Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) totaled 13 points and nine rebounds. Forward Jen Byrne (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and guard Cindy Napolitano (jr. Wall, NJ/St. Rose) produced nine points apiece. Guard Kim Dana (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold) tallied seven points and six assists while guard Charlotte Schum (jr. East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) brought down 10 rebounds.
 
The Lions were ahead 17-9 with 9:36 left in the second quarter. Rowan trailed by two (8:06) after two layups from Szymczyk and one by Sanchez. TCNJ increased its lead (26-17) with a 9-2 run. Schott deposited four points, Dana nailed a three and Byrne had a layup. Guard Mandy Jiang (sr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) hit a triple at the four-second mark and the Profs were down 32-26 at the break.
 
Rowan scored the first six points of the third quarter for the first of three ties in the period. Sanchez registered four of the points and Crilley had two. The teams were deadlocked at 36 apiece with 6:31 to go then the Lions had a 10-2 surge. Schum recorded five points, Schott added three and Dana made two foul shots. Napolitano sank a three-pointer (0:40) for a seven-point advantage (49-42) entering the fourth.
 
The Profs host Montclair State University for a conference game on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m.
