Women's Basketball Cruises To 92-77 Win Over Mount Saint Vincent In Opening Round Of Neumann Tournament

ASTON, PA – The Rowan University women's basketball team took a late first quarter lead and never looked back in a 92-77 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the first round of the Neumann University Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.
 
The Profs move to 2-0 and will play the host Knights in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. Neumann defeated Wesley College, 65-50 in the other first round contest. It was the first game of the season for the Dolphins.
 
Guard Summer Crilley (jr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored a career-high 22 points for Rowan and also grabbed five rebounds. Guard Anyssa Sanchez (sr. Pine Hill, NJ/Sterling) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 16 boards. It was a career best in rebounds for Sanchez. Guard Valerie Garofalo (sr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) tallied 12 points, 12 assists and six rebounds. Her assist total was a new career mark. Forward Jenna Hoffner (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) corralled seven rebounds.
 
Mount Saint Vincent guards Brittany Carroll (sr. Staten Island, NY/Curtis) and Christina Barone (sr. Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) each produced 18 points. Barone also had five rebounds and five assists. Guard Ryan Doherty (jr. New City, NY/Albertus Magnus) contributed with 15 points. Forward Allison Clarke (sr. East Northport, NY/Northport) chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
Crilley started the game with a three before the Dolphins went on a 12-3 run to lead 12-6. Barone led the surge with five points. Rowan followed with 18 straight and 27 of the next 30 to go ahead 33-15 with 7:49 to play in the second. Sanchez totaled 10 points in the span and Crilley had seven. The Profs did not trail for the rest of the contest.
 
Rowan ended the first half with a 16-3 spurt, led by Crilley with nine points, and went into the locker room with a 53-27 lead. The Profs had their largest advantage of the night (58-27) with 9:16 on the clock in the third. Mount Saint Vincent cut the deficit to 18 and trailed 64-46 (4:00) after a 19-6 run. Five different players scored in the stretch. Rowan continued to hold the lead without danger in the fourth with the Dolphins closing the gap to only 12 points (86-74).
