Box Score 2 NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women's volleyball team lost two matches at the New York Regional Challenge on Saturday.
The Profs suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks to Stevens Institute of Technology and Nazareth College. The tournament was held at Hunter College.
The set scores versus Stevens were 25-9, 25-14 and 25-16. Outside hitter Mary Tobin (sr. Boothwyn, PA/Archmere Academy) led the Ducks with 12 kills and nine digs. Outside hitter Taleen Mitchell (fr. Los Angeles, CA/South Pasadena) totaled 10 kills while setter Brianna Perez (so. Tomball, TX/Tomball Mem.) contributed with 30 assists. Libero Sydni Horner (jr. Columbia, MD/River Hill) produced 16 digs.

Kailey Gallagher (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) had seven kills for the Profs. Outside hitters
Erica O'Hagan (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) and
Megan Jacobi (fr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) added five and four kills respectively. Setter
Kat Wolf (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tallied 17 assists and six digs. Defensive specialist/libero
Rebecca Dantonio (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) and opposite
Maura Francis (fr. Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) chipped in with seven digs apiece.
The set scores against Nazareth were 26-24, 25-20 and 26-24. Outside hitter Cady Messmer (sr. Albion, NY/Albion) paced the Golden Flyers with 17 kills. Outside hitter/right side Carmen Sapp (so. Geneva, NY/Geneva) and outside hitter Delaney Martin (fr. Syracuse, NY/Westhill) tallied nine kills apiece. Setter Maureen Thayer (sr. Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) registered 37 assists and four service aces. Middle blocker/right side Kelsey Milligan (so. Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) contributed with five blocks while libero/defensive specialist Olivia Krick (so. Avon, NY/Avon) produced 13 digs.
O'Hagan led Rowan with 10 kills. Wolf compiled 21 assists, eight digs and four service aces. Middle hitter
Erin Keegan (so. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) chipped in with five blocks and setter
Mary-Grace Testa (jr. Kearny, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) had four. Defensive specialist
Alannah Srsich (so. Port Jefferson, NY/St. John the Baptist) totaled 12 digs and Dantonio added nine.
The Profs led 11-6 in the first set but Nazareth stormed back with nine straight points for a 15-11 advantage. The Golden Flyers were ahead 23-20 but the score was then tied at 23 and 24 before Nazareth scored two straight to win the set.
Rowan had a 17-15 lead in the second set before the Golden Flyers tallied five straight. The Profs cut the deficit to one (20-19) but Nazareth had five of the final six points to capture the stanza.
The Profs jumped out to an 8-1 advantage in the final set. Rowan led 23-12 when the Golden Flyers began a 14-1 rally to win the match, including the last 10 points. Messmer had four kills in the stretch and outside hitter Danielle Synowski (fr. Fairport, NY/Fairport) recorded two service aces.
Fifth-seeded Rowan travels to the four-seed Kean University for the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
