Box Score NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women's volleyball team began its weekend at the New York Regional Challenge with a 3-0 victory over Buffalo State College on Friday evening.
The tournament is being held at Hunter College. The Profs have two more matches on Saturday, Oct. 29. Rowan battles Stevens Institute of Technology at 12:30 p.m. followed by Nazareth College at 2:30 p.m.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-17. The Profs have a 9-20 record while the Bengals are 6-24.
Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (fr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) led Rowan with 12 kills. Outside hitters
Erica O'Hagan (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) and
Kailey Gallagher (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) each had nine kills and Gallagher added five blocks. Setter
Kat Wolf (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) contributed with 31 assists and three service aces. Defensive specialist/libero
Rebecca Dantonio (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) chipped in with nine digs and three service aces. Libero/defensive specialist
Jennifer Vorel (sr. Madison, NJ/Madison) had seven digs.
Middle hitter Lauren Hansen (fr. Blue Point, NY/Bayport Blue Point) totaled five kills for Buffalo State. Setter Katherine Marte (so. Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) produced 17 assists and 11 digs. Defensive specialist Victoria Rigler (so. Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) tallied 10 digs.
Rowan had a 5-4 lead in the first set then went on a 14-0 run on the serve of Dantonio. Jacobi had four kills in the rally. The Bengals cut the deficit to 21-16 but the Profs went on to win the set. With the score tied at 14 in the second stanza, Rowan registered six of the next seven points for a 20-15 advantage on the way to capturing the set. Gallagher had three kills in the run. The Profs were hanging on to a 7-6 lead in the final set when they took control with eight of the next nine points. Vorel and Wolf notched two service aces apiece and Jacobi totaled three kills in the stretch.
