Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team defeated New Jersey City University, 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-12. The Profs have an overall record of 7-14 and they are 3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Gothic Knights have a mark of 7-12 and they are 0-5 in the conference.
Outside hitter
Megan Jacobi (fr. Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) recorded seven kills. Outside hitters
Erica O'Hagan (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) and
Kailey Gallagher (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) each tallied six kills. Setter
Katelyn Paxson (fr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) accumulated 12 assists, seven digs and five service aces. Defensive specialist/libero
Rebecca Dantonio (sr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) picked up 11 digs and middle hitter
Erin Keegan (so. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) had nine.
For NJCU, outside hitter Ayleen Pittar (so. Union City, NJ/Union City) had seven kills and six digs. Setter Rachel McIntyre (jr. Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) collected 15 assists and 12 digs. Outside hitter Amber O'Donnell (so. East Newark, NJ/Harrison) added nine digs.
In the first set, NJCU jumped out to a 4-1 lead. Rowan fought back and took an 8-7 advantage. The score was tied at 13, then the Profs went on a 7-2 run to go out in front 20-15. The Gothic Knights got back to within three (21-18), but Rowan scored four of the last five points to take the first set.
The Profs tallied the first three points of the second set. NJCU stayed close and tied the stanza at seven. The set was then tied seven times, including at 17. Rowan ended the frame on an 8-1 run to win the set. The spurt included four service aces by Paxson.
NJCU was ahead 4-2 to start the third then the Profs used a 19-3 run to open up a 21-7 lead. Jacobi tallied four kills and setter
Kat Wolf (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had a pair of service aces during the run. The Gothic Knights recorded the next three points to make it 21-10, but Rowan collected four of the final six tallies to win the match.
Rowan hosts Stockton University on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
