2015 Men's Cross Country Schedule2015 Women's Cross Country ScheduleGLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's and women's cross country teams announced their 2015 schedule on Wednesday. The Prof men will participate in eight meets while the women will run in seven.
"We tried to pick a competitive schedule that will test our runners," said men's head coach
Dustin Dimit. "We selected some meets in the beginning that will provide good competition but will definitely help build towards the better teams we will face at the end of the year."
Rowan opens the season with a dual meet versus Stockton University on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The women's race begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men at 5:15 p.m. It is the first of four meets that the Profs will host at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) in Sewell, NJ. The men's squad travels to Salisbury University for the Salisbury Fall Classic on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 9:45 a.m.
"This is the first time we have been able to have so many home meets," said women's head coach Ringo Adamson. "It will definitely help the runners to have all of their parents and grandparents come watch them race. Their support provides some extra motivation to do well."
"The Salisbury meet will help our younger runners get used to an 8K race," explained Dimit. "It's a pretty fast and flat course so as long as it's not too hot, it will be a good introduction to the 8K."
The cross country teams visit White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, DE for the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, September 12. The women's race is first at 10 a.m. and the men run at 10:45 a.m. Both teams took first place last season. Rowan is home for the Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19. The women's race commences at 2 p.m. and the men are at 2:45 p.m.
"The Delaware course has a little more hills but we'll be facing some Division I competition," said Dimit. "We won that meet last year so the runners are looking forward to it."
After a week off, the Profs are at Letchworth State Park in Castile, NY for the Mike Woods Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The women take to the course at 11 a.m. followed by the men at noon. The teams have another break before hosting the Inter-Regional Border Battle on Saturday, Oct. 17. The women's race begins at 11 a.m. and the men start at 11:45 a.m.
"The Mike Woods Invitational will allow us to see the course that will be used for the regional this year," said Dimit. "The opportunity to run it beforehand will help improve our chances of reaching nationals. Our home meet on Oct. 17 should feature at least five nationally ranked teams and most of the top teams in our region as well as the Mideast Region. It will be a great opportunity to see where we are at that point."
Rowan has two weeks to prepare for the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held at RCGC on Saturday, Oct. 31. The women go first at 10:30 a.m. and the men are second at 11:15 a.m. Last year, both the men and women captured second place. The Profs head back to Letchworth State Park for the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday, Nov. 14. The women's race starts at 11 a.m. then the men are at 12:30 p.m. The top two teams and seven individuals not on a qualifying squad move on to the NCAA Division III Championships. The national championships are on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, WI.
"We want to focus on training especially later in the year and that's where having weeks off helps," said Dimit. "That was a high priority when we were deciding on a schedule."
"It is crucial to be able to prepare for a meet, especially for the younger runners," said Adamson. "The distance is longer in college than in high school so they have to be prepared for that. If you are just running meet after meet every week, there is no time for your body to recover. When we step out there for each race, they should be at their highest level."
