Box Score ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University softball team won the NCAA Regional over Rowan University, 8-0 on Sunday. 
 
The Saxons (38-4) advance to next weekend's Super Regional against Heidelberg University, the winner of the Cortland Regional.  Rowan ends the season with a 38-8 record.  The Profs received an at-large bid to the national tournament.  This was Rowan's 23rd appearance and fifth straight in the NCAA postseason. 
 
Alison Wickwire (sr. Towanda, PA/Towanda) was the winning pitcher.  She (12-3) only allowed two hits in five innings and had five strikeouts.  Right-hander Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had the loss (19-6). 
 
Hyland was named to the Alfred Regional All-Tournament Team along with shortstop Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and designated player Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central).   
 
Shortstop Nicole Maher (jr. Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) led the Saxons with three hits in three at bats, a double, three RBIs and two runs.  First baseman Sophia Chiavatti (so. Tustin, CA/Foothill) was three-for-three with one RBI and a double.  Designated player Jasmine Picini (jr. Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) recorded a home run and three RBIs. 
    
The winner from each regional advances to the Super Regional, Friday-Saturday, May 15-16.  The NCAA Division III Championship Tournament is scheduled for Thursday-Tuesday, May 21-26 in Salem, VA.
