Box Score 2 MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won 3-0 and 10-1 in six innings at Ramapo College on Monday afternoon. The doubleheader was rescheduled from the weekend.
The Profs have a 24-0 record with a 6-0 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). They broke the school record for longest win streak (22) from March 16-April 13, 1997. Rowan was ranked sixth in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll. The Roadrunners are 13-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (jr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) threw a complete game for the shutout in the opener. She (10-0) struck out six batters and only allowed two hits. Katrina Buczkowski (fr. Buffalo, NY/Clarence) was the losing pitcher. She (6-3) gave up five hits and three runs, two earned.
Second baseman
Alysa Romero (sr. Newfield, NJ/Vineland) had two hits in three at bats, one RBI and one run. Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (fr. Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) and designated player
Morgan Smith (fr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) each drove in a run. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (jr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Baldassari both crossed the plate one time.
Rowan was ahead 2-0 after the first inning. Snead led off with a walk and stole second. Baldassari knocked in Snead with a triple to center field. Romero followed with a base hit to left, scoring Baldassari. The Profs' third run came in the fifth. With two outs, Romero singled to left field. Smith reached base on an error and Romero scored.
In the second contest, right-hander
Allison Nolan (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) pitched 2.1 relief innings for the victory. She (7-0) gave up two hits. Christina Brizek (fr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) had the loss (4-4) on the mound.
Snead totaled two hits, a double and three RBIs. She also scored twice. Baldassari chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and one run. Romero had a two-run home run. Smith added two hits and one homer. Third baseman
Jessica Phillips (sr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) produced two hits in three at bats. Center fielder
Shannon Costello (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and right fielder Sammy Vradenberg (so. Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) scored two runs apiece. For Ramapo, right fielder Danielle Saporito (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had three hits in four trips to the plate and one run. First baseman Melanie Walling (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold) registered two hits (three at bats) and one RBI.
The Roadrunners had a RBI single by Walling in the first inning. The Profs went ahead 4-1 in the second. Snead posted a two-RBI base hit up the middle. Costello and Vradenburg each scored. Catcher
Alyssa Sims (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) came home on a wild pitch. Baldassari plated Snead with a single. Smith recorded a solo homer in the fifth for a 5-1 advantage. It was her second home run on the year.
Rowan ended the game in the sixth inning with five more runs. Costello got on base with a double and later came home on an error. Snead produced a RBI double and Baldassari's base hit scored a run. Romero had a two run shot to left field. She has four home runs on the season.
Next, Rowan hosts Stockton University on Tuesday, April 7 in a NJAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
